Notes, Tasks and Books: a calm workspace beside your documents

The free workspace extensions keep your notes, project boards and reading library in the same window as your files — and let the assistant draw on all of them.

Documents rarely stand alone. Behind the report there are meeting notes, a list of things still to do and the book chapter that gave you the idea. Usually those live in three more apps.

TinyOffice puts them in the same window as your files, as free extensions from the built-in Extension Store.

Notes

Notes are Markdown, with images. When words aren't enough, add an Excalidraw drawing or a mind map inside the note. Press ⌘⇧Space (Ctrl+Shift+Space on Windows and Linux) anywhere on your computer to jot something down without switching apps, and Export to Obsidian whenever you want your notes in a vault.

Clip the web

The TinyOffice Notes — Web Capture extension for Chrome saves the page you're reading straight into Notes. Press ⌘⇧D (Ctrl+Shift+D) or use the right-click menu. It can also save Facebook posts and send YouTube videos to Media.

The clipper talks directly to the TinyOffice app on your computer, so clips don't pass through a server — TinyOffice just needs to be running.

Tasks

Tasks turns a project into a board: lists like To do, Doing and Done, with cards you move as the work moves. Boards are stored on your device.

Books

Books is a reading library for EPUB and PDF books and audiobooks. Highlight passages as you read, set reading goals and keep your place. When you're signed in, the BookStore helps you find what to read next — with switches for exactly what's shared.

Why it's better together

Two things make these apps more than the sum of their parts.

One search box. Press ⌘K and type "budget". You'll see the spreadsheet, the note where you brainstormed it and the task to review it — in one list.

One assistant. The Home-screen assistant can read your notes, highlights and boards. Ask "what did I highlight about habits?" or "add a card to review the Q3 budget" and it answers from — or adds to — your own workspace. Like everywhere else in TinyOffice, it asks before it creates or changes anything.

More in the store

The Extension Store also has Transcribe (record, transcribe and summarise), Media (a library with offline playback) and the Document Translator for whole PDF, PowerPoint and Excel files. Extension packages are declarative — no executable code — and TinyOffice asks for your consent before installing one.

Guides for each app are in Workspace & Extensions.
